Our History

The Monroe County Education Foundation was created to promote education for the betterment of Monroe County and its residents by reaching for a lifetime of learning. We were founded in 2001 by Monroe County educators and business leaders with the hopes of being able to provide scholarships to Monroe County residents of all ages as they pursue higher education.

MCEF received corporate status in 2001 and was granted federal non-profit 501(c)3 public charity status in 2002.

Our founders dreams were realized in 2004, when we awarded our first scholarships to deserving Monroe County residents. Since then we have provided scholarships to high school seniors, college students and adult learners.
